My name is Rob Fitzpatrick. I am currently teaching PE/health for middle school students at a private school in Macon, GA. I also coach varsity football, basketball, and I am the head baseball coach.

I am married with three boys. My two oldest boys are also very much into sports and I help coach their teams as well. My wife is also a teacher. She teaches second grade in a public school.

When I'm not teaching/coaching, I like to spend my time fishing on my bass boat and hunting.

I am not an expert in technology but wantted to become more proficient in it since I know it is here to stay. Technology is our futue and I want to learn more on how I can use it in my classrooms so that my classrooms ar more engaging and better enriched.

  2. Hey Rob,

I think you're absolutely right about technology being here to stay. I also agree that we can use it to engage our students and create a more enriching education. The part I find challenging is figuring out where to start. I don't know about you but at times, I can find the technology to be overwhelming. There is so much coming and changing at once that it creates an unrelenting buzz that is difficult to filter through. In an effort to narrow in on one aspect of integration, how can you see the use of this blogging format in your classroom?

Perhaps you thought about this, but I think it would be really cool if you created a blog for your PE students. What a great way to integrate health into the PE. Students could follow up their PE class with homework that had them engaged in a blogging conversation that built on that week's activities. So many PE classes really lose the academic learning side of physical activity and health.

Another idea with regards to your coaching. Perhaps players and parents could recap after games. You could get different perspectives about what went well and what didn't. I suppose, however, that this could also open a door for unnecessary scrutiny. Now that I recall when I was coaching soccer, I'm not sure I would have thought this was a good idea.

What are your thoughts about these ways of using the blog in your classroom?
